Re: anti-theft tactics
I got ignition disable installed when I had the remote keyless put in. The truck won't start and a moderately loud alarm will go off unless you use the remote to unlock the vehicle. (about $150 for both, as I recall - a cheap Viper/Valet or something like that.) It has a manual override button hidden under the dash if you don't have the remote. My best defense is to have an ugly old truck (on the outside) which is not appealing to thieves. Also, detachable face on stereo head unit will help. If you have anything nice someone will eventually try to steal it. I don't have theft insurance due to the old age of the vehicle, so I am taking a risk. Even if you have theft insurance your extra mods won't likely be covered for much, if anything. If you want to get your stolen truck back, then Lojack is a good idea - but many $$$ - there are cheaper GPS trackers you can put on your vehicle. If you don't drive your truck daily, you might be able to get classic car insurance with theft, which is cheap.
