MY 1959 GMC Fleetside (i think) - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

New to this forum so excuse my ignorance, My buddy gave me a GMC pickup that we think is a 1959 Fleetside but I'm not 100% sure of the year because he miss placed the title/registration. I have a few questions for the experts.

(1) how can I tell exactly the year?
(2) Don't know if engine is good (st 6) should i rebuilt it or get something new?
(3) I would like to keep the truck as original as possible, where would i get the most bang for the buck?

Side note: the painting and bodywork is all being done for free.
