1963 Spring Heights?

How tall should stock 1963 front springs be? I've found the height of 67-72's to be 13-14 inches depending on settling. I was hoping I could use a set of Impala springs I have lying around to replace my broken springs. Unfortunately they're 16 inches and don't fit very well. They're the same diameter coils and wire. They both appear to have 7 coils. If I were to cut the Impala front springs down to 13.5 inches or the closest half coil to that I should be ok for a short term set right? Or do I pony up for a new set of drop springs and sell the Impala ones on craigslist?

Sorry for being long winded.
