Do windshield rubbers shrink? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I had Safelite install a new windshield in my 69 burb today. I provided the gasket which I picked up from LMC Truck. The rubber is for a 69 with the stainless trim. The installer said the gasket is too big but to leave it outside in the sun because it "Should shrink a little". He was concerned that it will leak and to be honest me too. There are some gaps and it is quite apparent that it's bunched up at the top and puckered on the inside. What do you guys think?
