Need help on steering shaft

I am going to try this once more, with some pictures and a better idea of what I am talking about.

I put a 2" body lift on my '72 and so I need to drop the steering shaft to meet the rag-joint. Well, the '72's shaft didn't have a swivel, or u-joint, so I figured I'd buy one at a swap meet.
I get it home and apart and I find out that this one pulls apart yet the one in my '72 seems to be one solid rod the whole way through.

What am I missing, how can I take it apart? Do I need to cut it and weld on the new one, should I buy a whole new steering column? Thanks for the help guys.

The pics are on my website under '72 K-10. The last pic is of the one that I bought, all of the others are on the truck. If anyone wants, they can post them on here. Still don't have that down.
