Refinish wooden bed

I need some help picking the correct products to refinish my wooden bed. I would like to do it once and have it last. My truck is always parked in my shop. I will be using polished stainless to hold the planks down.

Do I need to go to a boat shop to get a marine product? Do I use shlack, polyurethane, or what?

I have seen some of you guys beds and they look great. I would like mine to come out like that.
