6 cyl engine transplant
I have been pondering putting the 250 6 cyl from my 68 parts truck in my 71. The newer truck is automatic and the 68 is manual. I was intrigued by having a 6 cyl with t-5 speed but by the time it is all said and done, I think I will be better off finding a v8 automatic to put in there.
I got the motor started this weekend, it would idle but not rev (probably gummed up carburetor. it sounded ok, but it leaked a bunch of oil out the rear mail seal( I think that's where it's coming from). I took the bed off the parts truck today and put it on my 71. I am going to part out the 68 or just sell the whole thing, frame, cab and motor. I've never seen such a rusty cab. The entire edge of the roof is rusted through, I could almost peel back the metal like a tin can. The frame is actually pretty decent, it has that orangey mud all over it from Ga, and is bone dry with some surface rust from sitting around but no flaky parts or holes that I could see. Surprising that the cab is so bad and the frame is decent. The bed is actually not bad and I am going to use it on my 71.
