Wanting to know/how to smooth your fire wall

HI GUYS
I need a little help Im wanting to take out my heater blower motor ect To clean up my fire wall/I have never done anything like that before and was woundering what all is involved this is on an 82 silverado PLEASE I NEED PICTURES Also do they make a plate to cover up the hole? and do you leave your heater coil in ?
