99 burb, 5.7L starter question.

Hi Guys,

So this is a dumb question, but I just cant get my head around it. I have a 99 gmc burb. It has the 5.7 in it. I have a fresh battery, and I turn the key.... and nothing. The starter wont crank. It shows a current draw on the ammeter (SP??) I replaced the relay because my horn relay was bad at one point, so that is where my mind went. I also cleaned the terminals etc. I havent pulled the starter yet. What do you guys think? How tough is it to pull that starter. I am a machinist (production NOT automotive), Pretty mechanical, but I sometimes get intimidated with this stuff, especially where there are a lot of electronics involved. I went for the crawl under the car and I did was a little surprised to find that the bolts are not visible for the starter in the position I expected them. There are 2 bolts, but they go UP not toward the transmission like I expected? are these the bolts? Sorry about being such a chicken....

THANK ALL OF YOU in advance!
