Yes Another "what's it worth" Q: '55 3200 Series II
I am a car guy, just not a truck guy. I'm looking to find out what a fair market value might be on this truck and '55 prices seem to be all over the place; this is an old family friend selling and they have no idea of value and I don't want to screw them (sometimes you just wish they were strangers - ugh...morals...). I've been working on them 2 years just to get to this point.
If you have the time, here's the long story. I have the truck in my garage and put it on my lift for inspection. It is a 1955 Series II 3200 with 36,000 original miles, 2 owner truck with history to new. it is O-RIG-A-NAL!! Everything - down to original spiral shocks, radiator, hose clamps, everything! It has been sitting in a barn since 1980 and it is what you would expect as far as surface rust on frame, suspension, leaking seals, deteriorated suspension rubber, etc on something that has been sitting 30 years. But NO rust thru or even rust bubbles anywhere except what's noted below. I wish my corvette frame looked like this... It is a base model, only option is the AM radio (unless heater was an option) 6cyl, 3 speed on column. painted bumpers/grill, wood bed (wood is original and in surprisingly decent shape). Baby hub caps, 6 lug wheels. Brakes do not work, but just put in new distributor cap/points/plugs/wires and flushed out gas and it fired right up and runs very smooth, idles perfect (go figure). I drove it around using the hand brake. Both doors have significant rust on bottoms (not the skin, but the core door itself). Running boards (under doors) are very clean (no rust) and no dents. Driver fender has rust hole in bottom by door about size of quarter, smaller one next to it size of dime. Passenger fender has rust bubbles in same area, but not rusted thru and 1/3 the size. THAT'S IT FOR RUST! Floor pans, cab corners, door hinge area, metal around windsheild seals, inner fenders, bed, wheel wells, fender eyebrows, every thing else is solid. Never hit, no door dings, even the bed doesn't have any real dents "This was my City Truck" so I was told and I believe it. The truck was repainted in early 70's and is peeling in lots of areas. It was a bad paint job. Checked everywhere and have not found one speck of bondo (to back up owners stories of never hit) Interior looks like brand new. Even the rubber mat floor looks nearly new - and big surprise, not dryed out and all cracked up. all the tools - jack, lug wrench, etc all there. Look nearly new. I can't stress how original this truck really is. So, what is a fair market price for this truck? |
