brake pedal on auto trucks, some wide some narrow why?

Ok guys here's a good one for you, It's got me stumped and I can't figure it out.

My od mans 84 c10 has a narrow brake pedal like a stick shift would have, but it's auto and was auto from factory, and it's power brakes. I saw another guys post on here where his is narrow as well, and I've seen maybe 1 or 2 more online same way. My dad said his old man's old truck he bought new 79 or older had the same thing it was auto and had a narrow pedal, most autos I seen have the wide pedal. Why is this? why do some have narrow pedals?
