Sway bar bracket question...

The PO of my truck removed the sway bar, so I have sourced another one along with new bushings and bushing "U" brackets. The other day I saw a pic here on the forum somewhere that where the front bushings mount to the frame, a little bracket was bolted to the frame and then the bushings were bolted to the bracket...

How importrant is the little bracket? Can I just drill a new hole on each side of the frame and mout the bushing part direct to the frame???

I wish I could find the pic to describe it better....
