Master Cylinder Question for Under Dash Brakes

I am on the fence on smoothing my firewall. The only way I think I will bother to do it is if I relocate the giant ugly brake booster. It would be pretty easy to build a set up like this one from Kugel (without the clutch though)

They charge around $300 for the bracket and master cylinder or closer to $500 if you add a 7" booster.

What I was wondering is if I could simply build my own brackets and use the master cylinder that is on my truck now without the booster. I don't think manual brakes would be that big of a deal. If I can reuse the stock master cylinder then I can build this thing for like $50.

Anybody know if that will work??
