Annoying Snag in Tranny Installation

I have an 86 K20 I'm putting together and for some reason when I attempt to install the TH400 on the back of my 350 engine the tranny comes within a quarter inch of making contact with the engine block and just stops. What gives? I checked and cleaned the dowel holes, tried turning the engine just a hair, but I can't get the stupid tranny on!

There doesn't appear to be a guide pin on the end of the tranny shaft. Can you guys think of something I'm missing?

Thanks!
