Throttle Linkage Binding…72 C10

Just picked up this work/project truck. I need it to run while I work on it. The throttle is very sticky from the peddle, but easy from the carburetor side. It has a huge bend in it from the firewall to the throttle bracket. Can I shorten it somehow? Is this the wrong linkage? The rubber sleeve ends (between firewall and bracket) seem to be molded and I can't figure out how to shorten the section…Thanks for any advice…
