Cant Figure Out What This Stupid Wire Is For!!!

I recentley yanked out my stock 350 to swap with a re-built. im trying to sort out wiring in the engine bay. it was a rats nest from the last guy. Theres a black wire, with a cap on the end of it. The inside of the cap has a female spade connector in it. it runs in the same group of wires as my yellow for my ignition, and my two starter wires. its not a tach, and it isnt real long. I figure its gotta be a sending unit of some sort, but i cant figure out what its for. I dont remember taking it off the old motor, but its not full of oil and road crud, so it was obviosly hooked up recentley. Could somebody please bail me out before i just cut it off and realize later that i made a mistake!! Thankx for all yer help
