Re: Factory Big Block Shortbed Stepside?
My father in 1972 had a hell of a time getting anyone here in the Washington DC metro area to order the truck he wanted. 1972 chevy stepside. Black 402/turbo 400 373 or 411 posi. Cutdown heavy 1/2ton was what it was called. Black interior poverty hubcaps etc. A real sleeper. Finally a saleman said you want that truck I know how to get it. Ordered it under some fleet/copo program. He took it had a competion 2 shift kit installed in the turbo 400. put chrome rims with 67 corvette rally caps with the crossed flags on low profile wide 60's I think. He sold it in 1975 and I begged him not to. But he order a 76 chevy stepside with a 454 turbo 400 and 3.73 posi. My dad passed away 2 yrs ago in his papers I found the order form etc for the black 72 in his papers. I was looking on line for his truck when I found your post. I have a 396/375 and a turbo 400 that he had taken out of a 68 impala SS396. Thinking of getting a 72 stepside and doing a tribute build for my Dad with that motor and tranny. For anyone who has never been in a stepside truck like that let me tell you thay are a hell of a ride. Many times I saw that truck easy peg the speedo on interstate 81 and still be climbing.
