axle width question

So, in my search for a new axle I have found a 14 bolt sf 6 lug. This axle is about 4 inches wider than the stock one, which from the looks of it is gonnna put it at the same (if not just slightly wider) width as the front. Is this bad? I have heard that if the back is wider than the front it will kill your turning raduis. Mine already sucks, so I dont wanna make it much worse. Any of you guys done this?
