Making a long bed short....

So I got a 1967 Chevy C10 shortbed. I have started a complete frame off resto. So far the frame was sandblasted and repainted. The truck was six lug and is now a 5 lug with disc brakes in the front. The back is on bags and the front has been lowered. I flushed the fireway and I put in a Vortec 5.7 motor and 700r4 tranny... I still got alot of body work to do and my question is about my bed... I have a 72 long bed and it is in really good shape. I heard you can cut them down to fit. I know I have to take 12 from the front and 8 from the rear... But where do I start cutting???? Thanks fir your info... Ill post some pics later for your enjoyment...
