Question 350 SBC with Edelbrock carb

i removed the quadrajet from my sbc350 cause it was flooding badly, my dad had an edelbrock off of a for 302 that had lots of goodies on it, i had to use a spacer since the edelbrock butterflys would not work with the stock quadrajet manifold, the edelbrock had lots of junk in the carb, so we cleaned it out with carb cleaner and it ran pretty good when we got it on, but yesterday we took it back off to clean it some more and now it wont stay running and it backfires. I'm just wondering if that edelbrock is giving the engine too much fuel. It would be great if someone has has this problem and knows how to fix it, we think when we cleaned it it cleaned some gunk out blocking the jets. help appretiated, thnx in advance
