household plug on a truck?

i have a small 1/2 horse 1 gallon air compressor that id like to mount inside my toolbox for airing up tires when off road and eventually running train horns and whatever else i need. what is all involved to wire it all in? i want to use a toggle inside the cab. can i just wire it direct to the battery with a fuse or???
