how to restore 67 seat belt buckles

I have some 67 buckles that I want to paint/restore. I'm sure someone has done this before and I was hoping for information and maybe some pictures of the finished item. Some questions I had were-can you take the buckle apart so that it can be painted or powder-coated? Can the "bow-tie" in the center be polished-will it polish up? What paint worked best and any tips that worked for you. I want to either polish the bow-tie or power coat the buckles dark blue and if I can't polish it, maybe powder coat the bow-tie in white.
