vintage air a/c clearances?

it's time to figure out what way to go with the a/c. so....
has anyone used the super size? 24" long, or the compaq, 20" long?
once installed, how much room from the unit to the glove box door? enough for a hidden radio? , what's the difference in the binary and trinary switch?..what about compressor brackets? I will need to move the alt on the 350 over to the dr. side,
