hooking up the 4L60E

I have my wrecked 97 GMC with good engine/trans, etc. I have my 69 stepper with a new engine but needing a trans. So I've been thinking about using the good trans from the 97. It has to have a controller so I've looked into aftermarket units and frankly they are too expensive for me. I cannot see spending well over $1000 just to make my used tranny operational. Is there anyway to use the factory stuff and rewire it to work? I've done a lot of thread searching and haven't come up with anything yet.
I have never wanted any electronics on my 69 but I want to keep the 4.10 gears so I've been considering the OD and since I have a good one already..
