Shift Lever for TILT Steering Column

Hello all,
I purchased a newly refurbished steering column from Brothers last year and finally got it in and I am sadly striking out getting the shift lever or correct one to fit. The lever in the picture is supposed to be the correct one, but it goes in about 1/4 inch and is very tight. I don't want to force it and cause damage to the column, because when I pull it back out there is shavings from the column piece. My question is for those whom have done this; does the lever in the picture look correct and is there any mod I have to do to get it to fit properly? I am debating on grinding a little bit on the sides until it fits. I have verified elsewhere that this is the correct one, but I just want to make sure. As always thanks all.
