best paint for cast iron master cylinder

what would be the best paint for a new cast iron master cylinder and proportioning valve?

something that i could get from an auto parts or a hardware store. don't want them to be rusty in a few months.

also any recomendations on brake fluid?
i was going to use DOT 3 (which i can get free from work)
but i read that DOT 5 won't harm paint.

any opinions on this.

thanks
tommie
