crank but no spark

the short story is ... i did the valve cover gaskets and cleaned up the dizzy cap and rotor point and after that i have no spark ..... i have 12vlts on both sides of the coil which seems weird ..... i haven't changed the coil yet ... but it seems to ohm out within range ... i've been throwing parts at it and i know this isn't a great way to go about things .... my brothers a mechanic but he never works on older cars ... and he's stumpt ...

i removed the tape on the fir\wall looms and discovered a pink wire spliced into the yellow for the soleniod

i still have points and it seems that the brown resistor wire has been removed from the circuit ....it was cut off and taped in the loom ... i have no idea the wiring was so hacked in this truck .....

like i said the problem started all of a sudden .. any ideas would be great

thanks
