Driveshaft time

So I have NEVER done anything with a driveshaft in my automotive life. I can replace a u-joint fine, but have never measured for or really worked with a drive shaft.

The truck is my 66 short bed step side.
Old setup WAS 355 w/700r4 to 12 bolt
NEW setup IS lq4 w/4l80e to 12 bolt.

I thought I might be able to have the existing shaft modified to fit, but its actually too short, not too long. How do I know what ends I need, and how to measure for the shaft? I have read a few different instructions but it seems like the measurements I get, don't really make sense against what I'm reading.

Any help? Pics would be great.
Also, do I need to buy a seperate yoke for the trans? or does it come on the new shaft?
