1972-c10....trans swap=shorter driveshaft?

I am looking at a 1972 c10. The fella said that he swapped in a rebuilt 350 motor and a turbo 350 trans. He said the truck came stock with a V-8 and a auto trans. He said that all the truck needs is a new driveshaft because the stock one won't work (either too long or short). Would this be the case??? What v-8/auto trans combo would have been shorter/longer? Or does this sound like an excuse or a hack job?
