Wheel Cyl question - 1978 K30 Dual wheel

Should the wheel cylinder rubber boot press against the metal "ear" that is coming off the bottom of the anchor post? The photo shows the old wheel cylinder - the new one does the same thing. This is on a 1978, Chev K30, dual wheel truck.

This brake job was started last year and then life got in the way and I had to stop working on it - now back to working on it. One thing I have learned: Memories of something you took apart 13 months ago are fuzzy - I will be asking a lot of questions. The original thread about brake drum removal is here.
Thanks everybody - John
