Unhappy edelbrock problem? please, give advice

Ok, lately everytime I drive my truck, when I stop at a light it seriously sounds like it is going to kill. I have to keep my foot on gas and brake. It never actually killed, but fear it will. I let it run at home and it does the same thing but doesn't kill.
Truck hasn't had tune up since '08. Now it hasn't been driven since dec of '10, but is always started up.
Truck isn't dd because of high gas, so it has spent most of its time w/me sitting at the house.
Does anyone know what causes this? Does the carb need to be rebuilt, or is it just a tune up?
Thanks and any advice is greatly appreciated.
