my first blazer

Well, after 20 years of playing with these old trucks, I fianally got my first '72 blazer. This is my first 4wd of this vintage as well, so I'm sure I'll have plenty of dumb questions for you guys.
I bought it from the original owner, whose father bought the truck for her when she graduated from high school. It needs rocker boxes, rockers and partial floor pans as well as a few patches in the bed floor. It is plain jane, six cylinder/automatic with power steering and brakes. I'm actually digging the six and plan to leave it because it is so quiet. The SPID lists no option for the engine, so would it be a 250 or 292? The owner's husband said 292. It needs a valve cover gasket, so would it matter what displacement I tell the guy at the parts counter? Am I correct in assuming 3.73 gears?
The plan right now is to fix the rust and leave it pretty much as it is, including the dark green paint. It's not olive, but the non-metallic color that looks like a water department truck. I'd like to find some stock 8" wheels (wouldn't everybody?) with dog dish caps for it. I'll get some pics up soon.
