cant get truck started

i had a suspended license all of the 2010 year.. so my truck sat but was started every now and then... about october i went out and took bed apart to swap the bed floor got all that done now i cant seem to get it started.. i thought timing was off so i set it back to TDC and restabbed distributor... had a few backfires so i rebuilt my carb.. now i think its getting to much fuel because when i go to start it it takes forever to start.. once it gets started it runs fine just if you shut it off it takes like 5 minutes of cranking to get it going again.. what shall i do?
