The newer wire harness from your dad truck must have been for one with a neutral safety switch (NSS) on the steering column. Those two plugs-ins, purple wires and light green wires, originally went to the NSS.

Those two purple wires must be conected together in order for the truck to start. It is the same purple wire that goes down to the starter.

The two green wires, I believe are for the back up lights.

Hook the two purple wires together from the plug-in from the last picture and let us know what happens next.
