Unhappy remote starting - 73 gmc

Hi guys, have a problem starting engine remotely. One problem is the neg battery ground cable is smoking. It is properly grounded to the frame. The engine is not grounded. Am using an acutron remote starter. I don't know why this is happening. The starter has on the batt screw the pos cable , the hot wire from the alternator and the red wire from the alternator plug. These 2 wires are spliced together to a fusible wire. The other wire on the alt plug is the exitor and is connected to the "Ign" screw. Hope this helps. Need assistance. Thanks in advance.
