Kick panel vent question

On a factory air truck the passenger kick panel vent is operated via a vacuum canister. I have replaced my factory a/c unit with an aftermarket unit that no longer uses the vent for fresh air. I would like to convert the passenger vent to a pull handle arrangement like the driver side. I know trucks without factory air had pull handles on the passenger side too. My question is would I have to change the whole vent? Or can I remove the vacuum canister and spring and replace with a non-a/c style pull handle? Pics of non-a/c setups are appreciated as well. Just trying to figure out what all I need to change.
