2000 chevy truck lost reverse.

Hey fella's I was wondering if ya'll could help out a guy trying to help his Mom.

She has a 2000 chevy truck. Its 4wd with the 4.8/4l60e in it.It's been sitting in the driveway for about a year now.She had loaned it to my sister and one day while she was driving it the truck lost reverse.

My advice was to take the trans out and have it rebuilt. She got a qoute for that and said well maybe it's something else.(She's a single mother with alot of bills)Anyway some mechanic hold told her that it was possible that it's a reverse silinoid inside the tranny pan.Has anyone ever heard of this?

I like old cars and trucks. So I know nothing about this stuff honestly.I do work on cars alot though.Restoring a nova and a 69 c-10 ten truck.

I did a search on this furom and came back with nothing. Also googled it and came with some stuff.None to handy though.

If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.
