A/C Compressor Blew Front Seal

Summertime, using the A/C. Last Wednesday, my cool air went south. The compressor front seal let loose, slinging oil all under the hood. It's a Ready-Aire rebuilt compressor, only a year old. Installed it last summer along with fresh R-134a oil,reciever/drier, and new rubber hoses. Cooled very nicely until the other day. Anyone with similar problems? Did the system over-pressurize? Possibly too much refrigeration oil? An uncool situation.
