Brake help

I just installed the new mc, booster and prop valve from CCp. Now trying to hook up the arm to the pedal. Is there some trick to this? The pin comes in contact with the steering column before lining up to the hole in the pedal. How do I get this back in? I saw where some people said to drill a hole one inch down the arm(they said their directions said to do this), but mine did not. HELP!!
