250 CID Straight Six
Hey guys, it's been a while! Been plenty busy between school, work and summer plans.
So here's what I got: Put quite a bit of time in the 67 C20 this spring/summer. So far I've replaced: Front brakes (New shoes, cyls and lines, turned drums packed bearings) Master Cylinder New 16" Wheels and 265/75 Firestone Tires New Water pump Been replacing gaskets on the engine to quell oil leaks (been greatly minimized) Cleaned up the cab and body. So my plan this spring was to tear it all apart this fall and install a crate 350 and all the trimmings. However, I feel I owe it to the straight six to get out of it what I can first. If I don't like it, I can go through the hassle and expense of going to the V8. Here's my rationale: To put in a V8, it would be well over $5k by the time I was done, as I'd do it right with all new parts, radiator, clutch, crate engine, all the wiring I'd need, belts, hoses, alternator, etc. For half that I can have a 240 HP Straight 6 that will look cool, sound nice and have a good bit more power, and be definitely different. I was looking at doing this: Cam, Header and 4 BBL intake from Clifford Performance (unless somewhere can lead me to a better place). $1300 Holley Truck Avenger Carb: $500(?) Pull the engine, get the head re-worked with new hardened exhaust valve seats for unleaded gas and stiffer springs, seal the rest up, stab the cam and get it all clean and shiny - $800 New clutch (maintenance) - $500 Other odds and ends to make it a nice weekend cruiser and drive it around in the summer - $300 So I'm looking at around another $3k for a cool old truck with many more miles in her. Then we throw in some money for paint and body and have a very nice truck for somewhere around $10k, including $1,200 purchase and everything till now. Feel free to pick apart my list, tell me I'm an idiot for spending money on a Six, or whatever, but keep it respectful, lol. I'm open to any feedback. Thanks for the (Very Long!) read, glad to be back on here a little more. Also, a link to my build thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=467853
