Did I Cook A Head Gasket?
Finally got the rebuilt engine running, couple of big( i think) problems surfaced. first of all, didnt have any coolant, so i filled the rad with water, simply to be able to run it long enough to time it. the engine ran about 5 minutes, off and on, at anywhere between 600 and 3000 rpm. the engine seemed 2 be thorwing a lot of heat, so i idled it down and let the fan cool things about. i then noticed that the exhaust had a black almost diesel look to it. im wondering, did i cook a head gasket? im not sure if this is simply assembly lube, or if i cooked a gasket. i didnt notice what the exhaust looked like before this. could it just be oil and crap burning off? i really hope someone can tell me, cause i am really dissapointed. i also noticed that my temp gauge stopped working, simply because the ground on the gauge is no good. can someone help me, please? im really worried
thanx dale
