Sequence for steering gear/column removal

HI! I'll save this job for tomorrow, but I know how to get the pitman arm off. That's one tool I don't have however is a pitman arm puller. How do I get the rest of it out~ does the steering column come out in one piece? I have plenty of room, no seats, no glass in the way to get it out if that were to present a problem.
thanks!
