You could go to the spring shop and have springs made to whatever specs you wanted ever since there's been springs used in trucks. Why does it have to be store bought? The store bought springs came along after so many one-off jobs were out there. 4wd in itself was a modification and at first was an aftermarket conversion which made the truck site higher than stock and larger diameter tires were used. I first started seeing lift kits a few years after these trucks came out,like mid-70s. Dick Cepek's son Tom ran a set of huge tires on his F250 and I think they were either turf tires or some larger truck extra tractions. 4wds have always been outfitted to whatever their use was,especially when they were primarily used for utility purposes. Look at fertilizer trucks with 40 some inch tires and custom wheels. Trucks aren't cars. They were built in a few configurations and upfitters took it from there according to the truck's intended use. GM never made a garbage truck or an ambulance,either.
