Engine stumble & pop

Ok, just got this 92 ext. cab shortie. 350 tbi w/ 700R4 tranny. I am trying to diagnois a problem with the engine and need some advice. Engine runs great at idle and at low RPM's. When you get it under a load or step on the gas it stumbles/almost cuts off/pops thru tbi. I have installed new plugs, rotor button, wires, dist. cap to no advail. Next, I will replace the fuel filter. It smokes also. I am afraid it is on it's last leg and will need the engine replaced. Any ideas I can try?
