Help on installing a SM465 shifter?

Hey guys,

I bought a new shifter off of the board for my SM465 and want to swap out what I have now in the truck, but I'm worried about putting the new one in after I get the old shifter off of the transmission.

I've read all the posts about removing the old one and it seems easy enough (push down at the base, turn 1/4 turn counter-clockwise, and it should pop out), but haven't seen any advice for installing the new one.

Do I just seat the new one, push down, and turn 1/4 turn clockwise?

Some of the posts about removing the old shifter say that the spring can be a bit stiff so sometimes you have to give it a few taps with a sledge to pop it out. Do I need to compress the spring at the base to get the new shifter in? How hard is it to compress?

I'm worried that I'll get the old one out and then not be able to install the new one and will be stuck. I know many of you have done this a thousand times, so any guidance or advice you can offer on installing the new shifter would be great.

Thanks for the help!
