Chasing Shorts

I did not say skirts. I have a short somewhere? Any ideas on how to start hunting it down? I used to have a Fluke Volt Ohm meter that has a small amp guage. That is long gone. I need a tool that can dectect small shorts of voltage usage.
I presume you would suggest to got to the last thing I did in the electrical department and chech that out. I replaced the 2" clock and the temp guage was not working. Mechanic said it was working when it left the shop but hasn't worked since. When I took it back he said it was something behind the dash. I took it out and check the contacts on the temp guage it had three. All seemed clean, tried to tighten them a little but no go.
Any ideas on how and where to start?
