Painting Master Cylinder

First I know this isn't for my truck but at least its a chevy! I am painting the master cylinder and steering components on my 67 camaro and want them to look like bare metal but have protection. My question is, has anyone used something out of a rattle can to paint something similar and had good luck with it?
