1972 C20 Rear Axle Swap - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hello everyone. I just completely dissasembled my 1972 C20. It has a DANA rear end with leaf springs. I have been looking at a lot of forums and still have not found an answer to my problem/dilema. I currently have a 350 engine with a 350 trans. I plan to drop in a 700R4 and WANT to upgrade my rear end to an 8-lug disc brake set up. But I don't want to buy the 8-lug conversion kit. I was looking at buying a 2002 (or similar year)Chevy HD semi-floating rear end (runs about $500). Anyone ever done such a swap?
I don't plan to haul anything.
I don't want a 5 or 6 lug.
