A 379...What does this mean on the side of my motor???

I am taking a small block of some sort out of 1980 3 ton chevy truck. It has A379 on the side of the block. What does this mean? Cant get to the numbers on the back. I have it turned on its side now pulling the motor.

My pops is haulin it off to the scrap yard. He had bought like 7 from a company going out of business. We have never heard it run. No keys. Its got brand new oil in it. The block is black and so are the freeze plugs. It has a 1 barrel carburetor. What should I take off of it???

Why would a 3 ton truck have a 1 barrel intake and carb on it???
