huh - found another difference btwn 68 and 72??

well, i have to replace my wing vent windows cause some kid in May tried to bust into my truck - bending my driver's wingvent window in backwards and ruining the hinge.

so, i bought a replacement window at the ohio meet, but after a suggestion by longhornmail, decided to switch both wingvent windows out for chrome. (thanks, andy!)

found a nice chrome pair in the junkyard monday, and i have been pulling out windows and vents and cranks all week, replacing and polishing and washing parts.

i pulled off the little handles on the vent windows that hold them in place. the handles on my original vent windows are nicer than the ones from the junkyard, so i thought i'd swap the handles.

well, it turns out that i not only had to swap the handles, but i also had to swap the base that the handle mounts to. the base is that chrome circle in the lower corner of the vent window, and it is a b**** to remove!

as it turns out, the handle bases are different from 1968 to 1972. the vent windows from the junkyard (that i bought for replacement) come from a1972 truck, and i have a 1968.

if you are familiar with this setup, there is a small shelf on the base that sits inside the handle, and determines how far the handle is allowed to turn. on my 1968, that shelf is on the bottom of the base, but on the 1972, the shelf was on the top. if i tried to put my 1968 handles on the 1972, the handles ended up upside-down. there is also a shelf down inside the handle, which also appears to be backwards from 1968 to 1972. it has totally confused me. but i thought you ppl might be interested, or might be able to shed some light on the subject.

i'll try to borrow my friend's digicam, and post some pics this evening. i imagine that i wont get them back together anytime soon because the base on the one wing vent window has seized, and i cannot get it off. what can i say? i'm a wimp. i'm a woman. i'll have to see if i can dig up a strong man to bust it off of there!

i *have* managed to replace the passenger side vent window --- and it looks SWEET with chrome! thanks andy! great suggestion!

until l8r....
